When water enters the pipeline, the float is positioned at the lower part of the float chamber, allowing full exhaust. Once air is fully expelled, water fills the valve, floating the ball and closing the valve disc to stop venting. During normal operation, a small amount of gas may accumulate at high points in the pipeline. When enough gas collects, the water level inside the valve drops, the float descends, and the gas is released through the small vent hole. In the event of power failure or pump stoppage, when the pipeline empties, negative pressure may develop. The float then drops, opening the small hole and further actuating the larger port to admit air, helping to protect the pipeline.
